An iconic Japanese picture book author expresses his message to children in over 600 different works

The picture book author Satoshi Kako(1926-2018) produced many works that are enjoyable, educational, creative and stimulating all at the same time, featuring illustrations that captivate readers of all ages. He penned over 600 books, including the Little Daruma series and Mr. Crow's Bakery, until his passing in 2018 at the age of 92. These excellent stories continue to be read today across multiple generations.

This exhibition features oil paintings from Kako in his youth, the picture cards that he used for storytelling (at the start of his creative endeavors) in the "settlement activities" when volunteering after World war Ⅱ, as well as original illustrations for picture books that have never been shown to the public before. View his iconic works from across his creative career along with rare materials and productions all in one place. Learn about both the professional and personal life of Satoshi Kako, the worldview within his picture books and the message that he wanted to express to later generations.
