Since its inception in 1885, Les Deux Magots has been Paris' cherished haunt for artists and writers. Along with the name, our restaurant takes over the authentic atmosphere of the Parisian original.
Deux Magots Literature Award was first founded in Paris in 1933 by thirteen writers, painters and journalists; all of them regular patrons of the original Les Deux Magots restaurant. Their aim-to choose each year a promising and unique young writer to receive their literature award. Since 1991, the Bunkamura Deux Magots Literature Award has continued the progressive and creative traditions of the original award. While avoiding the traps of authoritarianism or fashion, this award will constanty seek out fresh talent. Any literary work (novel, essay, drama, poem) may qualify if it is published in Japanese in book or magazine format between July 1st and July 3lst of the following year. The selection will be made by a special "committee of one"; this position will be held for a term of one year.
