Genichiro Inokuma's World:
Dear Cats

Tue. March 20 - Wed April 18, 2018

Unrivaled love for cats: the wonderful life of an artist

Genichiro Inokuma (1902-1993)lived in the flamboyant world of art in the Showa era and despite trial and error, always maintained his own unmatched style and left a group of unique paintings. He was known for his blind love for cats, sometimes keeping a dozen as pets, and they were always an important motif of his life and paintings. Inokuma's art is constrained by the bounds of cats, but this exhibition invites viewers to first enjoy the paintings in which he portrayed his beloved felines, as a gate to Inokuma's world of great depth. This exhibition comprises well over a hundred of Inokuma's oil and water paintings and sketches of cats owned by Marugame Genichiro-Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art, as well as several works portraying subjects other than cats. Through this exhibition, cat lovers will see Inokuma as a cat painter, and those with a further interest can pursue the world of Inokuma as a master painter.
