Robert Frank is a legendary photographer best known for The Americans, the most celebrated photography collection in the world. This is the first documentary to depict the little-known life of the man who left his mark on photography, literature, music and cinema from the 1960s onwards, and to recount the times that his camera observed. The amount of precious footage contained in the documentary, including that of Frank talking about his own past, was only possible because the documentary’s director, Laura Israel, was herself involved for over two decades in Frank’s work as a filmmaker. The times that Frank lived through return to life on-screen, accompanied by a splendid soundtrack by musicians who are all admirers of Frank’s work.
